Birmingham, AL – The Millsaps Men's Basketball Team fell to Centre in the conference tournament quarterfinals earlier tonight by a score of 68-48.
The sixth seeded Majors end their season after falling to the third seeded Colonels. The Majors held a 25-23 halftime lead, but were outscored 45-23 in the final 20 minutes of play. Centre finished the second half shooting 61% from the field and 50% on three pointers to advance to the semifinals.
Sophomore guard and All-SAA selection
Quinn Atkinson led the Majors in scoring with 15 points. Atkinson also totaled six rebounds and three assists. Senior
Marc Robertson, another All-Conference selection, finished second in scoring with 11 points and led in rebounds with seven.
Tonight's contest featured three ties and four different lead changes as the Majors finished 19-52 (36%) from the field and 4-8 (50%) on three pointers.
After trailing by two at halftime, Centre took the lead on a 15-4 run early in the second half. The Colonels never looked back after the second half run en route to their 18th win of the season.
Millsaps finishes the year with an overall record of 5-21 and 4-10 in conference play. They also graduate three outstanding seniors in
Marc Robertson,
Rajan Hanstad and
Alex Gerchow.
With a great precedent set by the three seniors, the Majors have a great deal of positive momentum heading into the offseason and 2016-17 campaign.
