To the Finals: Women's Basketball to Face BSC for Conference Championship

Birmingham, AL – The Millsaps Women's Basketball Team earned a spot in the conference tournament championship with a semifinal win over Centre earlier today.
 
Today's 61-36 win marks the ninth straight for the Majors, as they will face Birmingham Southern in Bill Battle Coliseum tomorrow at 1:00 pm.  Junior Kala-Jewel Freeman again led the Majors in scoring with 21 points – matching her season high.  The Majors never trailed in today's contest, as they will face Birmingham Southern tomorrow for a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
 
Thanks to effective shooting and team defense, Millsaps jumped out to a 29-12-halftime lead.  Millsaps shot 54% from the field and 50% on three pointers for the contest.  The Majors led by as much as 20 points in the second half en route to a convincing 61-36 semifinals win.
 
In addition to shooting well, the Majors also held Centre to just 32% shooting on field goals and 0% on three pointers.  The Majors forced 12 turnovers while outscoring Centre for points off turnovers 9-4.
 
Millsaps also outscored the Colonels for points in the paint (20-10) and bench points (17-12) as well.
 
After a 21-point night on Friday, Kala-Jewel Freeman matched that total again going 7-11 from the field and 7-9 on free throws.  Freshman Braxton Thomas finished second in scoring with 12 points while Kim Klunk totaled seven.  Senior Miah Brooks led the Majors in rebounds with six while freshman Keyerra Jordan led in assists with six.
 
Today's 25-point win secures the Majors a spot in the conference tournament championship game. Millsaps will face the top seeded Panthers of Birmingham Southern tomorrow for a showdown between the SAA regular season co-champions.
 
The finals matchup will mark the third time the Majors face Birmingham Southern this year, as the top seeded contest is set for tomorrow, Feb. 28th.  Tip off from Bill Battle Coliseum is set for 1:00 pm.
