Birmingham, AL – A comeback rally in the ninth against Birmingham Southern fell short as the Millsaps Baseball team fell in the second day of the SAA Tournament in Birmingham, Alabama.
After falling behind 13-3 in the sixth, Millsaps scored eight unanswered runs to trail 13-11 in the ninth. The Panthers, however, closed the game to advance to the final day of the conference tournament. Millsaps completes the season with an overall record of 20-21 and 12-9 in conference play.
The Majors advanced to Saturday's late matchup after defeating Sewanee 7-4 earlier in the day.
Lee Ogletree led in RBIs with four while
Isaac Glenn totaled two and
Cavan Breland recorded one. Breland, Glenn and Ogletree also led in hits with two each. Freshman
Barret Kaul earned the win pitching over six innings giving up one run on three hits while striking out nine batters.
With the early victory, Millsaps advanced to face the seventh ranked Panthers (d3baseball.com), who hosted the tournament as the one seed.
Birmingham Southern took an early lead scoring once in the first and twice in the second. The Majors answered with three runs in the third.
Andy Page got things started with a single through the left side.
Logan Patterson then advanced Page to scoring position with a single.
A passed ball scored Page while
Drew Wray scored Patterson on an RBI single up the middle.
Lee Ogletree then singled to center scoring Wray and ending the positive inning with three runs and four hits.
The Panthers, however, scored four runs in the following inning to regain the lead. A five-run fifth and one-run sixth gave Birmingham Southern a 13-3 lead in the seventh.
Millsaps mounted a rally scoring eight unanswered runs (four in the seventh and four in the eighth), but the comeback fell short as Birmingham Southern eventually earned the two-run victory.
Connor Woodall led in RBIs with three while
Lee Ogletree recorded two.
Drew Wray and
Isaac Glenn led in hits with two each as Millsaps completed the game with 11 runs on nine hits and four errors.
The Majors complete the season with a record of 20-21 (12-9). Seniors

Drew Wray,
Greg Matthews and
Daniel Ross will graduate following excellent careers with the Majors both on and off the field of play. The Majors will look to use the positive momentum from the outstanding senior class moving forward into the offseason and beyond.
