SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Millsaps Women's Basketball goes on the road to beat Sewanee, 75-58. This win over Sewanee is the Majors third straight victory and second over Sewanee in the past week.
This victory moves the Majors to 13-6 overall and 6-2 in the conference, and also moves them up to 2nd place in the SAA following an Oglethorpe loss tonight.
After a slow start in a first quarter that saw the Majors shoot 33%, Millsaps trailed Sewanee 12-14. In the second quarter, the Majors heated up, shooting a big 60% three point range as well as 60% from the field to score 21 points while only holding Sewanee to 13 points.
In the second half, the Majors put up two more 20 point quarters as they slowly pulled away from the Tigers, outscoring them 20-15 and 22-16 in the two quarters. Three point makes were a big factor again today for Millsaps, shooting 10-23 from downtown. As a team, the Majors shot just under 50% from the field, forced 16 turnovers and outrebounded Sewanee by 10 on the night.
Individually,
Kala-Jewel Freeman had another double double, putting up 17 points, 11 rebounds and two steals on 6-13 shooting from the field.
Megan Donaldson came off the bench to hit five of Millsaps' 10 three pointers in rout to 16 points.
Kim Klunk also pulled down another double double, racking up 12 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and a block on 5-7 shooting from the field.
Braxton Thomas joined them in double figures as well, putting up 12 points, six rebounds and two assists on 5-10 shooting from the field.
Katie Connor and
Brazia Jones tied for game-highs in assists, dishing out six helpers.
Millsaps will next in action on Sunday in another rematch from last week against Centre on the road.
