SHREVEPORT, La. – Millsaps volleyball finished the Centenary Halloween Tournament on a high note by defeating the host instititution in four sets (17-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-18).
Regan Riddle (Montgomery, Ala.) had a big day offensively finishing the match with a season high 17 kills. Riddle was joined in double figures with
Morgan Vincent (Lafayette, La.), who also had a season high 16 kills, and
Mckenzi Petricko (Colorado Springs, Colo.) who finished with 13 kills.
On the defensive side,
Ashley Zamjahn (Harahan, La.) and
Meredith Gates (Broussard, La.) both stood out with 23 digs each.
Shelby Marsh (Dallas, Texas) also set a season high with 58 assists while also gathering seven digs.
After a slow start to the beginning of the match, Millsaps found themselves behind one set to none, the Majors fought their way back into it and took the next three sets.
Millsaps flipped the script in the second set by getting off to a fast start of their own. The Majors brought the score to a 20-11 lead and looked to be in control. Centenary then went on a 7-0 run and the score was eventually 22-20 with Millsaps still on top. Kills by
Morgan Authement (Lacombe, La.) and Riddle were what the Majors needed to tie the match at one set.
Neither team was able to break away from each other in the third. The score was even up until the set was tied at 24. Millsaps then got a kill and an ace by Gates to take the match lead.
Millsaps broke free from Centenary in the fourth set. With the score tied a seven, the Majors went on a 11-4 run to take an 18-11 lead. Millsaps then scored the final four out of five points to take the set and win the match.
Millsaps finishes the regular season at 15-13, a six win improvement from last year. The team will now prepare for the SAA Tournament which begins on Friday where they will be the four seed, the Majors play Sewanee in the quarterfinal round at the one seed Berry beginning at 3:00 p.m. ET.
