Volleyball Pushes Berry to the Brink But Falls in Five in SAA Semifinal

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – Millsaps gave top seeded and tournament host Berry all they could handle in the SAA semifinal matchup, but ended up falling short in five sets to see their season come to a close (16-25, 28-26, 25-23, 16-25, 7-15).

Regan Riddle led the Majors with 17 kills, joining her in double figures was Morgan Vincent with 12. Erica Bennett finished the match with nine kills and Shelby Marsh racked up 43 assists to go along with eight digs.

Defensively, Ashley Zamjahn finished with a team high 25 digs while Presley Stoltzfus had 15 and Meredith Gates tallied ten digs.

After Berry ran away with the first set, Millsaps made a comeback to win the second in extra points. With the Vikings on top 17-10, the Majors went on a 12-5 run to tie things up at 22. Both teams then traded points until the score was tied at 25. Berry scored the next point but Millsaps answered back by picking up the next three points to tie the match at one set apiece.

Millsaps carried that momentum into the third set to win it and go ahead in the match. Neither side gave any room to breathe until late in the set when the score was knotted at 16. The Majors scored the next four out of five points to take a 20-17 lead. After Berry forced the score back to a tie at 22, Millsaps closed it out on a 3-1 run to take the match lead.

Berry then proved why they are the number one seed and finished the regular season undefeated in conference play. The Vikings took the next two sets handily, knocking the Majors out of the tournament.

Zamjahn finishes the season with 706 digs and tallied 2,234 total digs over her historical career at Millsaps. That is a career mark of 5.50 digs per set.

With the loss, Millsaps' season comes to a close marking the final matches seniors Zamjahn, Marsh, Riddle, Gates, Stoltzfus, Jessie Allen, Madelyn Pearce and Lena Barrett.
