SHREVEPORT, La. – In their final game before heading home for the holidays, the Millsaps men's basketball team closed a 14 point gap over the final four minutes of the game, but came up short, losing 71-68 at Centenary Saturday afternoon.

Junior Michael Sullivan led the Majors with 14 points, scoring 13 of them in the second half. Also scoring in double figures was sophomore She'Chem Grant, who connected on four threes to finish with 12 points off the bench. Senior Sam Kohnke came away with 11 points and sophomore James Turner finished with ten points and eight rebounds.

Joshua Miller got the Majors on the board with a three in the opening seconds of the game, it would be their only lead of the game. After Centenary found their footing, Buck Blanz made two baskets to make it a 9-8 game with 16:29 on the clock in the first half.

Centenary then went on a 10-3 run over the next five minutes, but it was halted by a three from Turner. Blanz kept it going with a basket and then hit a free throw to make it a 19-17 deficit with 10:03 to go. The Gents finished the first half on a 13-6 run, the six points for the Majors were on two threes by Kohnke to keep it at just a nine point game (32-23) at the break.

Millsaps slowly closed the gap over the first few minutes of the second half. Sullivan, Saxton Becker, and Grant all hit threes to keep the Majors in the game, closing the gap to 42-36 with 12:02 to go. But Centenary held on to their lead as the minutes ticked down, going ahead 66-52 with 3:52 left.

The Majors began their charge when Kohnke made a basket and Grant knocked down a three pointer, then Tysin Meads made two free throws and a layup to make it a five point game with 1:39 left. After the Gents got two back, Sullivan scored four straight to make it 68-65 with 35 seconds on the clock. Centenary then upped their lead to six to put the game away.
