Men’s Basketball Falters Against Louisiana College to Finish Cru Classic

BELTON, Texas. – Millsaps finished the Cru Classic, hosted by Mary Hardin-Baylor with an 82-47 loss at the hands of Louisiana College Friday afternoon. Sophomore She'Chem Grant and freshman Joshua Miller each finished with eight points to lead Millsaps in the scoring category. Freshman Kalvin Spikes grabbed a game high nine rebounds while scoring six points.

In the opening minutes of the game, both teams traded baskets. Millsaps jumped out a quick 4-0 lead when Sullivan got it started with a layup and Grant hit two free throws. Louisiana College proceeded to go on an 8-0 run that was halted by a three by Saxton Becker to make it an 8-7 game with 17:12 on the clock.

That was closest that the Majors would stay with the Wildcats. LC closed out the first half on a 38-14 run including a seven-minute span where the Majors were outscored 16-0 during the closing minutes of the first half. Millsaps finished the first half with a dunk by James Turner and a basket by Joshua Miller to head in into halftime down 46-21.

Millsaps kept up with the Wildcats pace in the opening minutes of the second half, scoring eight points but LC held a 57-29 advantage with 16:10 to go. Miller scored six of his eight points down the stretch, but it was not enough as the Majors could not close the gap over the final minutes of the game.

Millsaps continued to be strong on the boards, out-rebounding the Wildcats 40-31 and 12-7 on the offensive glass.

With the loss, the Majors are now 3-8 on the season. Millsaps begins conference play next with its first SAA game on Tuesday, January 2nd at Birmingham Southern for a 3:00 p.m. start.
