Box Score MOUNT BERRY, Ga. -- Women's Basketball wins in overtime over the Berry Vikings, 82-79. This win brings the Majors to 16-7 on the year and 9-3 in conference play.
A win tonight keeps Millsaps on pace with Birmingham-Southern as conference leaders in the SAA, both with 9-3 records. With BSC winning over Oglethorpe tonight, the Majors now have a two game lead on their Sunday opponent, Oglethorpe.
In this game,
Millicent Butler got the Majors off to a good start, hitting two threes in the first quarter as they went into the second quarter down 16-18. In the second quarter, the Majors outscored Berry 19-10 to go into the half up seven, led by six second quarter points by
Kala-Jewel Freeman.
In the second half, the Majors pulled away from Berry in the third quarter, outscoring them 18-11 while shooting 50% from the field. The tables were turned in the fourth quarter however, when Berry made a late run, going perfect from behind the arc to tie the game and send it into overtime.
Millsaps ultimately outlasted the Vikings in overtime, putting up 13 points to their 10 to take the big conference victory.
Individually,
Braxton Thomas came off the bench to lead all Majors with 22 points on 7-12 shooting from the field. Freeman also had a big night, racking up 20 points, seven rebounds, and five assists on 50% shooting from the field. Butler and
Megan Donaldson combined to hit six three pointers and
Brazia Jones came off the bench and shot a perfect 4-4 from the field in route to 10 points and three assists.
Millsaps will next visit Atlanta, Ga. to rematch third place Oglethorpe on Sunday with hopes to keep their three game winning streak going.
