Box Score BIRMINGHAM, AL. -- Millsaps Women's Basketball team downs Centre in the Quarterfinals of the SAA Conference Tournament, 63-51. This win advances Millsaps to the Semifinals where they will play the winner of #3 Hendrix and #6 Berry.
Millsaps rolled out a new starting lineup for the tournament debut, starting
Braxton Thomas,
Amber Newell,
Katie Connor,
Kim Klunk, and
Millicent Butler, and bringing
Kala-Jewel Freeman off the bench. The game started close, the Majors struggled to get anything going offensively early. Millsaps only hit four of their 12 first quarter shot attempts and turned the ball over three times, however they were a perfect 6-6 from the line.
In the second quarter, the Majors continued to struggle offensively, however they made up for early offensive woes by forcing Centre to turn the ball over six times. Millsaps held Centre to only 30 points and went into halftime down 30-27.
Millsaps turned the defense up even more in the third quarter, limiting Centre to only seven points while also finding their footing on offense, led by a perfect 4-4 shooting quarter by Freeman.
In the fourth quarter, Millsaps pulled away from Centre with their best offensive quarter of the night, shooting 5-9 from the field and 2-2 from downtown.
Millsaps was led in this game by their All-Conference selections,
Kala-Jewel Freeman and
Kim Klunk. Freeman had a game-high 27 points and five steals. Klunk had 16 points, seven boards and two steals.
Braxton Thomas also chipped in nine points.
