Women's Basketball's win over Rhodes moves them into First Place

Box Score JACKSON, Miss. -- Women's Basketball's 56-39 win over Rhodes moves them into a tie for first place in the SAA conference with Birmingham-Southern. This win brings the Majors to 15-7 on the season overall and 8-3 in conference play.

After Birmingham-Southern's three straight losses, the Majors now are tied for the conference lead with three games remaining and one game remaining against BSC. Oglethorpe, one of next weekend's opponents, is one game behind Millsaps and still have to face the two conference leaders  next weekend.

On Sunday, the Majors started the day by honoring their three seniors, Katie Connor, Kala-Jewel Freeman, and Kim Klunk in a pre-game ceremony. Each senior was honored with their family present and had their accomplishments read off to the crowd as they applauded them for their four years of hard work.

In the game against Rhodes, the Majors got off to a suffocating start on defense, only allowing Rhodes to score four first quarter points and one field goal. In the second quarter the defense let up a bit but the Majors still outscored the Lynx 17-14 to take a 14 point lead into the half.

After securing a double digit lead in the first half, the Majors never looked back, extending the lead in the third quarter and holding the lead in the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Majors rested their starters and allowed for the three seniors, Katie Connor, Kala-Jewel Freeman, and Kim Klunk to leave the game to one last regular season standing ovation from their loving crowd.

Individually, Kala-Jewel Freeman led all Majors in scoring and rebounds with 18 points and ten boards. Kim Klunk had a solid game, racking up eight points and seven rebounds. Katie Connor had a game-high eight assists to go with her four points. Megan Donaldson came off the bench to add four more three pointers to her conference leading 57 threes made.

The Majors will seek to extend their two game winning streak and maintain the conference lead next weekend on the road against Berry and Oglethorpe.
