JACKSON, Miss. – For the second straight match, Millsaps lost by a score of 1-0 in the Millsaps Soccer Tournament. The difference was a Huntingdon goal in the 26th minute of the game. Senior
Molly Ambrose (Pensacola, Fla.) and Junior
Grayston Barron (Little Rock, Ark) both had a shot on goal and freshman
Aimee Leachman (Madisonville, La.) finished with a shot to lead the Majors.
After the first half was locked at a standstill for the first ten minutes, both teams had scoring opportunities. Leachman put pressure on the Hawks defense with a shot in the 11th minute. A few minutes later, Millsaps was awarded a corner, the pass met Barron who put a shot on that was saved.
Huntingdon brought the ball back to the other side of the field had three scoring oppurtunities. The first hit the post, the second was blocked and the third shot was saved by senior goalkeeper
Olivia Gattuso (Memphis, Tenn).
The Hawks broke through in the 26th minute with a rebound goal off the foot of Meredith Harrison. That would be enough to secure the victory.
Gattuso finished with six saves in the match and was complimented with some strong defense by Junior
Sarah Rimmer (Bay St. Louis, Miss.).
Millsaps will be off until September 9th, they resume play against Maryville in the Rhodes Tournament at 12:00 p.m. in Memphis, Tennessee.
