MT. BERRY, Ga. – Led by 18 points from junior
Michael Sullivan, the Millsaps Majors scored their second consecutive SAA victory as they came back from a ten-point deficit late in the second half to grab a 70-64 win over Berry College. With this afternoon's win the Majors improve their record to 6-14 overall and 3-6 in the conference. The Vikings fall to 6-14 overall and 1-8 in the SAA.
Millsaps held a 34-30 lead after a first-half that saw the Majors shoot 46.7% from the field including 60% from beyond the three-point arc. Sullivan led the way with seven first-half points, but sophomore
Buck Blanz and freshman
Drew Burnett each chipped in five points.
The host Vikings opened the second-half on a 12-3 run to grab a 42-37 lead with 13:23 left to play in the basketball game. A three-pointer from
Saxton Becker quieted things down, and pulled the Majors to within four points still with over ten-minutes to play. However, Berry opened things up again, and took a 53-43 lead with 8:41 remaining.
Millsaps responded with ten straight points, capped off by a pair of free throws from Becker to tie the game at 53-53. After a Berry free throw, the Blanz buried a three to give the Majors a lead that they would not surrender for the remainder of the contest. The Vikings made things interesting, but Millsaps connected on five of their last six attempts at the free throw line to secure the 70-64 win.
The Majors return home this weekend for two more SAA contests. Millsaps will host Sewanee at 6:00pm on Friday night, and will play Centre at 2:00pm on Sunday afternoon.
