Millsaps Drops Close Contest at Centre

DANVILLE, Ky. – Millsaps saw their lead dwindle in the closing minutes of the game and fell behind with four minutes to go, eventually falling 63-58 at Centre Sunday afternoon. The Majors drop to 3-11 overall and 0-3 in the SAA, while Centre improves to 7-6 and 2-1 in conference play.

Freshman Joshua Miller finished with 18 points on 8-9 shooting and four rebounds, while junior Michael Sullivan also had 18 points with five rebounds and a steal. Joining them in double figures was She'Chem Grant who came away with ten points and four rebounds.

Sullivan and Miller combined for the first nine points for the Majors as Centre kept up with the pace to keep it tied at nine with 13:25 on the clock. Grant's layup put the Majors back on top, but Centre came back with two baskets of their own. Buck Blanz hit a triple that was quickly answered with a three by the Colonels to give Centre a 16-14 lead with 9:54 to go.

A small 4-0 run by Millsaps put them back in the lead but Centre quickly tied it back up at 18. Millsaps made every effort to pull away, but Centre responded with baskets of their own on each possession. With the score tied at 25, Matt Owens made a layup with 25 seconds left in the half to give the Majors a 27-25 lead at the break.

Millsaps started the second half on a 15-8 run to take a 42-33 lead with 12:41 to go in the game. Centre then used an 11-3 run to pull to within one making it a 45-44 game with 6:18 left. The Colonels took the lead for good with a three and followed that with another long ball to make it 55-49 with 3:08 left.

Grant and Miller kept the Majors in the game down the stretch and Sullivan hit two at the line, bringing the score to 59-56 with 29 seconds to go. But Centre made their free throws in the final seconds to take the close win.

The Majors return to the Hangar for their first home game since December 14th when they take on Rhodes on Friday at 8:00 p.m. It is the first of four straight at home.
