Balanced Scoring Effort Gives Millsaps a 91-63 Win over Dallas

JACKSON, Miss. -- The Millsaps College men's basketball team closed out their home tournament by hosting the Crusaders of the University of Dallas on Sunday evening.

The Majors got 63 of their 91 points from the bench to help give them a 91-63 win, and improve their record to 5-0 this season.

How It Happened
The Majors got out to a hot start with a jumper from Joshua Miller and three by James Turner, but Dallas recovered and actually led for the better portion of the first half.

After the Crusaders hit back-to-back three pointers to take a 6-5 lead at the 15:37 mark, the teams spent the next 7+ minutes trading baskets.

The largest lead for the Crusaders was by only 5 points, and came with 11:58 left to play in the first half.

Millsaps tied the game at 21-21 on free throws by Zachary Tullos and Turner, and from that point on the offense erupted from long-range. Buck Blanz and Newlon Gillihan connected on a combined five threes, the final one coming from Gillihan to put Millsaps up 34-26 with 3:29 left to play.

The Majors outscored Dallas 10-5 over those final 3 minutes to take a 44-31 lead at halftime.

By the 12 minute mark in the second half, Millsaps had stretched their lead out to 20 points. It was a layup by Tullos, who finished as the Majors' high scorer, that put Millsaps up 57-37 with 12:58 left to play.

As the clock continued to wind down, Head Coach Jimmy Smith was able to empty his bench for the second night in a row, as every player was able to see game action. 16 of those players got their name into the scoring column.

Key Contributors
Tullos finished with 11 points and 8 rebounds off the bench. Sullivan was the only other Major to score double-digits as he had 10 points.

The three-point shot was again a huge part of the Millsaps success tonight. The Majors finished 12-23 from beyond the arc. Millsaps also improved on their SAA-best rebound margin, as they topped Dallas 45-29 on the boards in the winning effort.

What's Next?
The Majors have a rematch with the Gents of Centenary College on Tuesday night. Millsaps beat Centenary just one week ago in the SAA/SCAC Challenge. Tuesday night's tip-off from the Hangar Dome is scheduled for 8:00pm
