Undefeated Men's Basketball Team Back in Action This Week

12/17/2018 3:41:00 PM

JACKSON, Miss. -- After a break in the schedule surrounding the end of the semester and final exams, the Millsaps College men's basketball team is back in action this week with a pair of non-conference games. Check out the game notes below for all of the details on this weekend's matchups.

Last Time Out
Back on November 30th, the Majors traveled to take on the 'Roos of Austin College. It was the second meeting this season between the two schools.

The Majors were up 42-37 at halftime, and led by 14 second half points from Ryan McLaurin, were able to pull away from the 'Roos in the final twenty minutes to pick up a 90-67 win and complete the season sweep of Austin College.

The very next day, Millsaps wrapped up their road trip through "The Lone Star State" by taking on the Crusaders of the University of Dallas. The Majors never trailed in that one as they were able to knock off the Crusaders by a score of 70-60, and pick up their eighth win of the season.

At 8-0 overall, the Majors are off to the second-best start in school history, trailing only the 11-0 start to the season that the 1994-95 team had.

Tomorrow: 5:00pm at Belhaven University (3-5, 1-3 ASC)
It will be the second meeting this season between the Majors and cross-town rival Blazers. Millsaps opened up the season with a 77-66 win over Belhaven back on November 13th

Belhaven is led by a pair of double-digit scorers in Brosnan Cooks and Rick Hodum. Cooks leads the team with 14.0 points per game.

It will be a battle of wills tomorrow evening as the Majors defense, which is allowing opponents to shoot just 33.8 percent from the field, is matched up against a Blazers offense that is shooting it at a 46% mark.

Thursday: 3:00pm vs Louisiana College (7-1, 4-0 SCAC)
The Majors return to the friendly confines of the Hangar Dome on Thursday afternoon when they welcome the Wildcats to Jackson. After dropping their season-opener to Birmingham-Southern, LC has picked up wins in each of their last 7 games. They will play a NCAA Division I exhibition game against Northwestern State on Tuesday, before traveling here on Thursday.

The Wildcats offense, which is averaging 77.5 points per contest, is led by four different players: Devon Washington, Kae'ron Baker, Jaylen Rhone and Lashard Powell who are all scoring double-digit point totals per night.
