JACKSON, Miss.—The Millsaps men's basketball welcomed Louisiana College to the Hangar Dome for a Thursday afternoon contest.
While neither team could build too much of a lead, the Wildcats led when it mattered, downing the Majors 88-85 to give Millsaps their second straight loss.
How It Happened
The first half was back and forth, as both teams offenses shot over 50% from the field. With less than four minutes left in the half, a
Michael Sullivan three gave the Majors a nine-point lead, at 38-29. The Wildcats went on a 9-2 run but a pair of
Newlon Gillihan freethrows sent the Majors to the half ahead 42-38.
The two teams traded buckets to start the second half but Millsaps was able to extend their lead to seven after a
Justin Van Pelt layup. But a 9-2 LC run tied the game at 59 midway through the period. The teams exchanged leads until the score was knotted at 72 with six minutes left. A
Joshua Miller bucket and foul gave Millsaps a brief lead but the Wildcats closed the game on a 15-10 run that Millsaps couldn't recover from.
Key Contributors
Sullivan led all Millsaps scorers with 16 points while
Saxton Becker, Miller and
Kalvin Spikes added 13, 12 and 11, respectively.
