Majors Ring in 2019 With Trio of Home Conference Games

After finishing a tough non-conference schedule that saw the Majors finish at 9-2, Millsaps will open the new year by opening SAA play with three games at the Hangar Dome this week.
 
Millsaps finished non-conference play with the second best win percentage (.818) in the SAA, just behind Oglethorpe at .833. The Majors offense is tops in the conference in points/game, averaging 66.8 per contest. 
 
Morgan McCrea is the Majors leading scorer, averaging 13.4 PPG, which is tied for 5thin the conference. Dia Fortenberry (10.5 PPG) and Millicent Butler (9.6 PPG) fall just outside the SAA top-10 in scoring, coming in at 11thand 13th, respectively. Butler also ranks 9thin the conference with a 45% shooting percentage. 
 
Defensively, Fortenberry leads the Majors in rebounds/game, pulling down 7.7, which puts her at third in the SAA. Anna Wilson's 5.9/game also puts her in the top 10, making the duo only one of three schools with two players in the top 10 in rebounds. Butler and Fortenberry also rank fourth and fifth, respectively, in steals/game, averaging 2.0 and 1.9. 
 
Last Time Out
 
After taking out Belhaven and MacMurray, both by double-digits, prior to Christmas, the Majors dropped just their second game of the season, a 54-51 setback to LeTourneau in Texas, to end their non-conference slate.  
 
Tuesday
 
Birmingham-Southern University Panthers (3-8, 0-0 SAA) 1:00 PM Hangar Dome 
 
BSC ended November and started December with back-to-back wins before dropping their last four games, by an average of almost 30 points/game, including a 42-point loss to #5 Hope on Dec. 21.  
 
Key Players for BSC
  • Emilee Olsen-The junior forward is the leading scorer for the Panthers, and third in the SAA, averaging 14.4 points/game. She's also a force on the glass, leading the team and conference with 11.3 rebounds/game.
  • Aisya Davis-Davis is the second leading scorer for BSC, bringing in 8.0 points/game. 
 These two teams met twice last season with BSC taking both games, including an overtime win on the Majors senior day.

Friday
 
Berry College Vikings (4-8, 0-1 SAA)
 
Berry started out the season 2-1 before dropping five straight, including a conference loss to Oglethorpe. They picked up back-to-back wins in the middle of December but have dropped two in a row prior to their matchup with the Majors. 
 
Key Players for Berry
  • Alex Weems-Weems comes into Friday's game second in the conference, dropping 15.2 points/game. She also leads the team in rebounds/game grabbing 6.2. 
  • Berry's Defense-The Vikings defense is stout, only allowing 57.2 points/game, which is third best in the SAA. The defense also causes more than 21 turnovers/game, which leads the SAA.   
 The Majors and Vikings met twice last season, with Millsaps knocking off Berry both times.

Sunday
 
Oglethorpe University Stormy Petrels (10-2, 1-0 SAA)
 
OU dropped a matchup to #5 Hope before reeling off two straight wins, making them 7-1 in their last 8 games.  
 
Key Players for Oglethorpe
  • Savannah LeGate-The sophomore is tops on the SP squad, scoring at a pace of 14.1 points/game, which also puts her fourth in the conference. She's second in the conference at 9.3 rebounds/game and 2.2 blocks/game as well.  
  • Bailey Charles-When it comes to shooting threes, the ball usually finds Charles' hand. The senior is second on the team with 8.7 points/game but shoots a blistering 48.3% from behind the arc, which is tops in the league.    
Millsaps will be looking for some revenge against the Stormy Petrels, as OU knocked the Majors off three times last season, including eliminating them from the SAA tournament.
