Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Millsaps Blows Past Birmingham Southern on Senior Day

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps College men's basketball team received double-digit point contributions from four different players, and shot an even 50% from the field to grab a 79-61 win over Birmingham Southern in their final home game of the year. The Majors improved to 9-16 on the year and 6-8 in the SAA. BSC falls to 10-15 on the year and 7-7 in conference play.

Senior Sam Kohnke was playing in front of the Hangar Dome crowd for the final time in his Millsaps career, and he did not disappoint. On the Majors second offensive possession of the game he buried a three-pointer, the first of his four on the afternoon, to get things going for Millsaps.

The two teams went back and forth in the early going before Millsaps opened up a 15 point lead with 8:14 left to play in the first-half.

The Majors pushed their lead to as many as 17, before finally settling for a nine point advantage as they led BSC 36-27 at halftime.

Michael Sullivan led all scorers with ten points in the first half. Nine of those came from beyond the three-point arc.

Millsaps picked up right where they left off in the second-half. Buck Blanz connected on a triple to put the Majors up 46-31 less than two minutes into the half.

Millsaps went on to dominate most of the second half, and posted their largest lead of the game with 6:58 left to play on a three from Sullivan.

Sixteen different players saw playing time, and ten of them found the scoring column in the box score as the Majors closed out the 79-61 win.

Sullivan led all scorers with 18 points, but Khonke and She'Chem Grant were not far behind as they both contributed fourteen points apiece. Blanz was the other Millsaps player in double-digits as he finished with eleven.

Matt Owens was huge off the bench as he played seventeen minutes, and led the Majors with seven rebounds. Joshua Miller manned his point-guard position and dished out a team-high five assists in the winning effort.

Today was the final game of the 2017-2018 regular season, and Millsaps now turns their attention to post-season play. The Southern Athletic Association tournament gets underway on Friday at Centre College, and the Majors enter as the #6 seed. They will have a quarterfinal matchup with Oglethorpe on Friday night.
