ATLANTA, Ga. – The #8 seeded Millsaps women's basketball team saw their season come to an end with a 61-40 loss to the #1 seeded Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels in the quarterfinal round of the Southern Athletic Association tournament played at Dorough Field House Friday night.
Anna Wilson was the only Major in double figures with 12 points.
Braxton Thomas came away with nine points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals, while
Dia Fortenberry finished with eight points and ten rebounds.
After Millsaps fell behind 12-4 in the first quarter, the Majors closed the quarter on an 11-4 run led by five points from Thomas and four from Wilson with a layup from
Taelor Manning to make it a 16-15 deficit at the end of the first.
Millsaps was unable to get much offense going as the game progressed, the Majors were outscored 32-15 over the middle two quarters as Oglethorpe extended its lead to 18 points taking a 48-30 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Millsaps started the fourth on an 8-4 run to close the gap to 53-37 with 6:14 to go. But Oglethorpe finished the game on a 7-3 run to bring the Majors' season to a close.
Anna Wilson was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performance.
The Majors return 16 out of the 17 players on the roster for next year.
