JACKSON, Miss. – Following a five point loss to Sewanee and a win over Centre last weekend, the Millsaps Women's Basketball team is set to play two big road games this weekend. The Majors will first head to Memphis to face Rhodes on Friday before travelling to Conway to play Hendrix on Sunday.
In the first meeting this season on January 12th, Millsaps fell 72-59 to the Lynx at the Hangar Dome.
Dia Fortenberry led the way for Millsaps with 16 points in that meeting, while
Braxton Thomas finished with 11. Rhodes enters the contest at 13-8 overall, and third in the SAA at 6-8 with Millsaps one game behind in the standings. The Lynx are led by sophomore Alysssa Owens who ranks fourth in the SAA with 14.6 points per game and finished with 14 against the Majors in the first meeting.
When Millsaps played Hendrix in Jackson earlier this season, the Majors won by a score of 62-59. Thomas scored 20 points to lead Millsaps, while
Anna Wilson came away with 11. Hendrix enters this weekend with a record of 15-7, and is second in the SAA with a 7-4 conference record. Madison Martin leads the Warriors in rebounding and is fifth in the SAA with 7.5 rebounds per game, while Leah Smith shoots 36.4 percent from beyond the arc, which is fifth best in the conference.
Millsaps enters this weekend ranked fifth in the SAA in both offense and defense, and Fortenberry ranks third in the SAA in points per game with 15.2 as well as second in field goal percentage at 49.5 percent. Millsaps holds a record of 8-14 overall and 5-6 in conference play. They currently rank fourth in a tight SAA race with three games remaining on their schedule.
