ROME, Ga. –The Millsaps College baseball team advanced to the semifinal round of the Southern Athletic Association tournament with a pair of elimination game wins on Friday. On Saturday the Majors took on the host and #1 seed Berry College Vikings. The Vikings offense totaled sixteen hits on the afternoon and came away with a 12-0 win.
Berry scored three runs in the bottom of the 1
st to take the early lead. After another run in the 2
nd the Vikings really broke the game wide open in the bottom of the 4
th with seven runs on eight hits to push their lead out to 11-0. They added another run in the 5
th to make it 12-0, and that would be more than enough to secure the win.
Cavan Breland led the Majors' offense with a pair of hits.
Andy Page added a hit, and the lone walk of the afternoon for Millsaps. Six other hits came from six different players to give the Majors a total of eight. Unfortunately, they were all scattered over the course of nine innings as Millsaps struggled to really get anything going all afternoon long.
The Majors best chance to score came in the top of the 6
th when Page and
Connor Woodall both reached to start the inning. Unfortunately, a double-play and strikeout ended the scoring chance for Millsaps.
With today's loss, the 2018 season comes to and end for the Majors. Millsaps finishes the year with a 25-19 overall mark, a six-game improvement from the year prior. They ended with ten SAA wins, two more than in 2017.
