Volleyball Rolls Past Oglethorpe at Home

JACKSON, Miss. -- The Millsaps College volleyball team turned right around from a Friday night contest to play Oglethorpe on Saturday morning.

The Majors cruised through the first two sets, leading them to eventually put the game away in the third to win 3-0.

Oglethorpe continues to struggle in conference play, while Millsaps picks up their fourth SAA win.

How It Happened
Payton Passantino would get things started with a couple of aces to go along with a handful of OU errors, putting the score at 9-2. The Majors continued to build the lead behind the strong serves of Morgan Vincent before going ahead by 10. Millsaps closed out the opening set 25-13, setting the tone for the remainder of the game.

The Stormy Petrels fell in an early hole in the second set, down 4-12. TaKorya Green, of Oglethorpe, decided that it was time for her team to make a push, cutting the lead to just 3 at 14-17. Fortunately, the home team found a rhythm and closed out the second set in eight straight points.

After consecutive hitting errors, Millsaps found themselves down for the first time at 8-10. The Majors were unable to regain control until taking a 23-20 lead. Despite a couple of OU points on a visiting timeout, Erica Bennett put an end to the comeback with back-to-back kills.

Notables
Offensivley, Katelyn Thomas added 20 assists to the attack, while McKenzi Petricko led the team in kills with 11. Payton Passantino boasted 20 digs and a couple of aces to contribute to the team's total of seven.

What's Next?
Millsaps will be right back on Tuesday night for a midweek conference matchup with Birmingham-Southern at 6:00 p.m. Additionally, Sewanee and Centre will both be traveling to the Hangar Dome for the homecoming weekend.
