ATLANTA, Ga. -- On Friday, the Millsaps College men's soccer team took on the Centre College Colonels in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) semifinal matchup.
The No. 2 seeded Colonels netted a pair of first-half goals to take an early 2-0 lead.
Unfortunately they were able to hold that advantage for the duration of the second half to pick up the win.
The loss ends the Millsaps season. The Majors finish with an overall record of 7-10. That is a three-win improvement under the direction of first-year Head Coach
Kurt Albrecht.
How It Happened
Centre scored first with a goal in the 10th minute.
From that point the Millsaps defense settled in. Despite the Colonels getting off 16 first-half shots senior keeper
Alfie Miller was able to make seven saves to keep the Majors in the game.
Unfortunately Centre broke through again with a goal just 19 seconds before halftime to take a 2-0 lead.
The Majors' offense put together a couple of second half chances which resulted in four shots, but each time the Colonel defense held strong as Centre advanced to the conference championship with a 2-0 win.
