CONWAY, Ark. -- The Millsaps College men's tennis team opened up their 2019 season with a pair of road matches on Saturday. 

The Majors jumped right into Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play as they beat Hendrix College 9-0 to open up the season.

Later in the day Millsaps picked up a 7-2 win over the University of the Ozarks to improve their record to 2-0 on the young season. 

Hendrix College
The doubles team of Cooper Cearley and John Kimball picked up the first win of 2019 for the Majors to get things going at the No. 2 spot.

They were quickly followed by Brandon Beck and Davis Plummer who took No. 1 by an 8-0 score. Mark Clark and Mac Lane completed the doubles sweep for Millsaps with an 8-4 win at No. 3.

As the match moved into singles play Millsaps quickly built on their 3-0 lead.

Benjamin Falk blanked his opponent at No. 3 by identical scores of 6-0, 6-0, and Jacob Niehaus clinched the match for the Majors with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2.

With the match in hand, Josh Shearin, Owen Stovall, Alex Gardiner and Clark all picked up singles wins to complete the 9-0 shutout win. 

University of the Ozarks
In the second match of the afternoon the Majors took on the University of the Ozarks. 

In doubles action Millsaps was able to take the all-important 2-1 advantage thanks to wins from Plummer/Beck and Shearin/Falk. 

After wins from Kimball and Plummer in singles, it was Beck who clinched the match win for the Majors with a 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot. 

Lane and Stovall also scored singles wins in the match for Millsaps to make it a 7-2 final. 

What's Next?
The Majors will open up the home portion of their schedule next weekend when they host Huntingdon College on February 17th. Matches from Coach Montgomery Courts are slated to begin at 12:00pm.
