ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Millsaps College men's tennis team wrapped up this weekend of Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play by taking on the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University.
Unfortunately, the Majors fell behind 2-1 after doubles play, and after splitting the singles matches found themselves on the short end of a 5-4 final score.
This is just the third loss of the season for Millsaps as they fall to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in SAA play. The Stormy Petrels improve to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in league play.
How It Happened
Davis Plummer and
Brandon Beck, who are ranked as the No. 12 doubles combination in the Atlantic South Region, posted an 8-6 win at the doubles number one spot, but unfortunately the Stormy Petrels picked up wins in the other two matches to grab the 2-1 lead.
John Kimball,
Benjamin Falk and Beck all scored wins for the Majors in singles play, including Beck and Falk coming back after first set losses, but the 2-1 deficit early proved to be the deciding factor in the 5-4 loss.
What's Next?
Millsaps will be on the road again next weekend when they travel to Rhodes on Sunday. Matches are slated to begin at 11:00 a.m.
