JACKSON, Miss. -- The Millsaps College men's tennis team was at home on Sunday for the first time since March 2nd. The Majors welcomed the Colonels of Centre College to Coach Mongthomery Courts for a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) match.
Millsaps dominated doubles' play to jump out to an early 3-0 advantage, and they quickly wrapped up the match with a pair of singles' wins.
How It Happened
The Majors won all three of the doubles' matches in succession to take a commanding lead.
Brandon Beck and
Davis Plummer defended their regional ranking with an 8-1 win at one,
Cooper Cearley and
John Kimball scored an 8-2 win at two, and the combination of
Jacob Niehaus /
Benjamin Falk wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win at three.
As the matches moved into singles play the Majors quickly wrapped up their win.
Plummer scored his second win of the day, and the 100th of his decorated Millsaps College career, 6-0, 6-3 at one. Meanwhile Beck clinched the match for the Majors with his 6-2, 6-4 win at two.
What's Next?
The Majors will be back in action at home twice this week. First up is the final non-conference match of the season against East Texas Baptist University on Thursday.
Matches from Coach Montgomery Courts are set to get underway at 12:00 p.m.
