MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The Millsaps College men's tennis team opened up the 2019 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament with a quarterfinal matchup against No. 5 seeded Centre College.
The Majors were able to grab a 2-1 advantage after the doubles' matches and cruised in three in singles matches to advance to the semifinals with a 5-1 win.
How It Happened
Brandon Beck and
Davis Plummer defended their No. 9 Atlantic South Regional ranking with an 8-3 lead to get things going for Millsaps.
Jacob Niehaus and
Benjamin Falk scored an 8-5 win at doubles three, but the Colonels rebounded to take doubles two by an 8-6 score.Â
In singles Plummer quickly scored his second win of the afternoon 6-1, 6-1 to put Millsaps up 3-1. Beck also picked up another win 6-2, 6-1 at three, and Falk clinched the win for the Majors with his 6-3, 6-1 win at number six.Â
What's Next?
The Majors will be back in action tomorrow morning with a semifinal match against the No. 1 seed and No. 20 team in the country Sewanee. Matches are scheduled to begin play at 9:00 a.m.
