Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Season Comes to an End on the SAA Tournament's Second Day

CONWAY, Ark. -- After knocking off the host and No. 1 seed Hendrix yesterday, the Millsaps College baseball team returned to Warrior Field on Saturday for a winner's bracket game against No. 4 seed Rhodes.

The Lynx jumped out to an early lead, and they were able to build on it throughout the game to picked a 14-4 run-rule win.

The loss dropped the Majors into the elimination bracket where they faced a rematch with the Hendrix College Warriors. Some defensive miscues plauged the Majors in the nightcap as the Warriors were able to come away with an identical 14-4 run-rule win.

Game 1
A big bottom of the first inning gave Rhodes an early cushion. They scored five runs on four hits to grab the early lead.

The Majors offense broke through in the top of the 3rd for a run when Brennan Ducote scored on a passed ball.

Rhodes went quietly in their half of the third but they added three runs in the fourth, and scored four more in the fifth to pull ahead 12-1.

Two more runs in the sixth made it a 14-1 ballgame.

Millsaps did everything they could to hold off the run-rule in the top of the seventh, but they were held to just three runs.

Back-to-back singles from Jimmy Johnstone and Ducote got things going for the Majors. Mason Little followed with a double to left-center scoring both runs to make it 14-3. Jimmy Fondren singled home Little, but the Lynx stopped the bleeding there to hold on for the 14-4 win.

Key Contributors
Ducote paced the offense with three hits on the game. Johnstone, Little and Fondren also had multi-hit ballgames for the Majors, and it was Little who led the team in the RBI department with two.

Game 2
An early deficit again proved costly for Millsaps in the second game of the day.

With both teams facing elimination from the tournament, Hendrix scored a run in the first, and added three more in the second to grab a 4-0 advantage.

In the top of the fourth inning the Majors put a pair of runs on the board to make it 4-2. Jackson Hailey singled through the right side to bring home Little, and Nathan Chilton reached on a fielder's choice which allowed Fondren to score and cut the lead down to two.

Unfortunately the Warriors responded with three runs, two of them unearned, in their half of the inning to increase their lead to 7-2.

In the fifth, Millsaps answered back with two runs of their own on RBI singles from Little and Avery Brock, but it was all Hendrix the rest of the way.

The Warriors put up five runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and scored the walk-off 14-4 win with another run in the seventh.

Key Contributors
This time it was Little who turned in a three hit performance for the Majors. He added a RBI. Fondren was also able to pick up his second multi-hit game of the afternoon.
