MOUNT BERRY, Ga. -- On Sunday, the Millsaps College men's basketball team wrapped up the weekend with a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) matchup against the Vikings of Berry College.
It was tightly contested early with the Vikings holding just a one-point lead at halftime. Unfortunately, Berry outscored the Majors in the second half to secure the 68-54 win.
The loss drops the Majors to 11-7 overall and 3-4 in the SAA. Berry improves to 13-5 overall and 4-3 in the league.
How It Happened
Kalvin Spikes opened up the scoring in an evenly matched first half with a layup.
The largest first half lead for either team came on a
Saxton Becker three-pointer to put Millsaps up 17-12 with 5:58 to play.
Unfortunately the Vikings were able to fight back and take a 24-23 lead to the locker room.
Berry opened up the second half on a 12-0 run in the first four minutes which really proved to be the difference in the ballgame.
Millsaps ended the run with a layup from Spikes and a three-pointer from
Ryan McLaurin.
The teams traded baskets for the better part of the second-half, but the Majors struggled to get back to within striking distance. They got as close as 52-45 with 4:09 left to play, but Berry was able to hold on down the stretch for the 68-54 win.
Notables
Dillon Young led the way with nine points, while
Anthony Hughes and
Kaleb Jenkins each added eight.
Justin Van Pelt continued a string of strong performances, especially in SAA play, with a team-high 13 rebounds.
