NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- On Friday afternoon, the Millsaps College women's tennis team opened up their 2020 season with a match against Salisbury University.

The Majors split the singles' matches 3-3, but the Seagulls 2-1 advantage in the doubles' matches allowed them to score the 5-4 win. 

How It Happened
The combination of senior captain Maggie Dabadie and freshman Camille Fremaux grabbed the first Millsaps win of the season with an 8-6 victory at doubles No. 2. 

Unfortunately, Salisbury won doubles No. 1 and doubles No. 3 to take the early 2-1 advantage. 

In singles play, Grace Gaskins started her junior campaign off with a quick 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1. Dabadie scored another point for the Majors with her second win of the day at singles No. 2. 

At singles No. 6, Morris Kelly Clayton rebounded in a big way after dropping the first set 6-1. She fought back to take the second set 7-5, and won the third set tiebreaker by a 12-10 total. 

Unfortunately the Seagulls picked up wins at singles No. 3 and No. 5. Fremaux battled all evening long at singles No. 4, coming back to force a third set before eventually falling 7-6. 

What's Next?
Millsaps will remain in Virginia where they will take on No. 30 Christopher Newport University tomorrow. The match is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. CT.
