Baseball Drops Series Finale to Berry College

JACKSON, Miss. -- On Saturday, the Millsaps College baseball team returned to Twenty Field for the series finale against the Berry College Vikings.

Due to a recent announcement from the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) that all conference competition would be suspended effective March 20, the Berry seniors along with: Taylor Sullivan, Jackson Hailey, Langston Haden, Jon Dale Dieckman and Jimmy Johnstone were each honored prior to the first pitch.

The Majors held an early lead, but the Vikings battled back to score the game's final six runs to help capture an 8-5 win.

How It Happened
Haden drew the start on the mound, and after allowing one Berry run in the top of the 1st, he settled in for the better part of the next five innings.

The Vikings plated their second run in the 4th, but in the bottom half of the inning the Majors went to work.

Johnstone and Fritz Walker III both reached to lead off the inning. During Avery Brock's at bat, they each advanced in to scoring position on a wild pitch. Johnstone then came in to score on a fielder's choice.

Later in the inning, Millsaps tied the game when Hailey was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Majors went ahead 3-2 on a Keaton Page bases loaded walk.

Haden worked around base hits in both the 5th and 6th innings to keep Berry off the scoreboard, and Millsaps gave him some more run support in their half of the 6th.

Mark Petkovsek led off the inning with a single. He later came around to score on a Page single. The Majors took a 5-2 lead on a Will Neely sacrifice fly.

Unfortunately, the Vikings answered back with three runs in the 7th to tie the game. They went on to score three more in the 8th, and held off Millsaps in the 9th to pick up the 8-5 win.

Key Contributors
Haden's final line was 6.2 innings pitched. He allowed just two earned runs to score, and struck out four batters.

Page, Brock, Petkovsek and Chris Hart each had a base hit for the Majors, while Page led the way with a pair of RBIs.
