CONWAY, Ark. – A stout defensive effort gave the Millsaps women's basketball team plenty of breathing room to win its second consecutive game against Hendrix with ease, 65-41 on Sunday. Millsaps (3-0, 2-0 SAA) held Hendrix (0-2, 0-2 SAA) to 23.7 percent (14 of 59) from the field at the Grove Gymnasium in Conway.
The Warriors also struggled to connect from three-point range thanks to the Majors' defensive prowess, shooting 18.2 percent (6 of 33).
Millsaps freshman
Helena Roe posted a game-high 13 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore
Briasha King added 12 points and grabbed four of the Majors' 11 total steals. Both Roe and King hail from Madison, Miss.
Elecia Lartigue, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, netted 10 points off the bench.
The Warriors held a brief lead early, but couldn't continue the momentum. Roe nailed a jumper in the closing minute of the first quarter that was quickly followed by a King takeaway. King dished the ball off to senior
Taelor Manning who finished off the play, giving the Majors a 14-7 advantage and control at the end of the opening frame.
The second quarter then went back-and-forth which saw Major's lead shrink to one point, but then grow back to nine. Lartigue connected on the final make of the half to give Millsaps a 27-18 lead at the break.
The Majors would then outscore the Warriors 21-10 in the third behind an impressive 77 percent shooting from the field (10 of 13) to pull away for good. Hendrix was held down in the second half, connecting on only 27.3 percent of its shots (9 of 33).
