Men’s Soccer’s Season Comes to a Close at Oglethorpe in SAA Quarterfinal

Wilkins Dowdy Posted Nine Saves on Saturday

ATLANTA – The Millsaps men's soccer team fell in an SAA quarterfinal matchup to No. 1 seed Oglethorpe on Saturday. Sophomore Wilkins Dowdy Posted nine saves in the 7-0 defeat, which saw the Majors play with 10 men the majority of the match.

Oglethorpe outshot Millsaps 30-4 with a 16-2 advantage of shots on goal.

Senior forward Jack Dowdy had the lone two shots on goal with a header from a cross that was barely saved in the 49th minute for the Majors best opportunity to score on the day.

Oglethorpe struck first with a goal in the fifth minute off a free kick that found the top right corner. Jacks Dowdy would attempt to tie the match moments later, but his shot was corralled by the Stormy Petrel keeper.

Later in the 27th minute, the turning point of the match would come when senior midfielder Christopher Bruni was given a red card attempting to stop a breakaway opportunity, leading to an 11-10 player disadvantage on the field.

Oglethorpe would score on the resulting a penalty kick from right outside the box. The Stormy Petrels would add one more goal in the 45th minute to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.

The hosts would add four more tallies in the second half for a 7-0 final.
