Cameron Williams recorded his third double-double of the young season, but it was not enough as the Majors fell to (RV) Centenary College in the Millsaps College Tournament Consolation, 73-50 on Sunday. Sophomore guard
Christian Evans led the Majors in scoring with 16 points and to go along with his five rebounds inside the Hangar Dome.
Millsaps (2-5) raced out to a 5-0 advantage when Williams connected on his first two shots of the game. Centenary (2-2) would pace their way back into the game and claim their first lead at 10-8 with just over 13 minutes remaining.
The Gents gained a 28-19 separation following the under four-minute media timeout thanks to a 12-1 burst. Junior guard
Doug Watson answered with a deep three-pointer, but Centenary hit a pair of treys to gain their largest lead off the opening 20 minutes at 12.
Cam Rucker would connect on a driving layup for the final score of the half, cutting the deficit to 34-24.
Trying to put the game away early, Centenary started the second half with a 12-0 run to build separation, pushing the advantage to 46-24. The Majors finally ended their scoring drought of eight minutes with a Watson free throw make.
As they game progressed, the Gents began to pull away with their largest lead reaching 27 points. The Majors would finish the game strong, but ultimately fell by a score of 73-50.
Millsaps will next head to Shreveport, La. for a rematch with Centenary on Tuesday, Nov. 30. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m., while live video and stats links can be found on the men's basketball schedule page at gomajors.com.
