IRVING, Texas – Senior women's basketball forward
Andrea Rayford nearly finished with a double-double, but the Majors' five-game winning streak came to an end at the University of Dallas on Friday. Rayford tallied 10 points and eight rebounds in a 60-47 defeat inside the Maher Center.
Junior forward
Devan Caldwell finished right behind with nine points and seven boards, while freshman guard
Emily Adams played well off the bench (four points, four rebounds and three steals).
Millsaps (5-4) led Dallas (2-5) in points in the paint (20-16) and bench points (14-4) but could not overcome a slow night from the field. The Majors were slightly outshot 33.3 percent to 30.2 percent and from the free throw line (63 percent to 56.3 percent).
The Crusaders were tied with the Majors after the first quarter (7-7) before creating a 20-14 separation at halftime. Dallas pulled away in the second half with a 40-33 edge.
Juniors
Meagan Bickmann and
Briasha King bookended the opening 10 minutes with treys for the Major scores from the floor.
Both teams battled evenly through nearly two and a half quarters before Dallas utilized a 13-2 run to race ahead, 40-25 with 1:54 left in the third frame.
Millsaps would whittle its way back into the game and cut the deficit to 43-41, punctuated by a sophomore
Helena Roe three-point basket with 5:03 to play.
Dallas' defense would tighten up once more and the Crusaders would outscore the Majors, 17-6 to earn a 60-47 win.
Millsaps will continue with its second contest of a four-game road trip at MUW on Tuesday. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m. with live video and stats links available on the women's basketball schedule page at gomajors.com.
