Majors Outlast Lynx, 72-69 in Overtime on Senior Day

Seniors Drew Burnett and Joshua Miller Combine for 37 Points on Tuesday

JACKSON, Miss. – A late second-half surge powered the Millsaps men's basketball team (2-8, 2-8 SAA) to a 72-69 overtime victory over Rhodes College (1-9, 1-9 SAA) on Senior Day inside the Hangar Dome on Tuesday.

Millsaps was buoyed by senior guard Joshua Miller (20 points and three steals) and senior forward Drew Burnett (17 points and nine rebounds) in their final collegiate contest for Millsaps.

Two other Majors reached double digits in the scoring column. Freshman wing Cameron Williams filled the stat sheet once again with 14 points, five rebounds, and a career-high four steals. He scored in double figures in every game this season. Sophomore guard Doug Watson added 11 points and five rebounds to help carry the load for the Majors.

Millsaps shot 40.3 percent for the game including 4-for-6 in overtime. The Majors dominated the paint (42-22), while the Lynx found success from their bench (37-11).

The game remained close throughout with the largest lead only reaching seven points for either team. There were also 10 lead changes and the game was tied 18 times.

Rhodes took a 45-40 advantage with 10 minutes to play following a three-point basket. Williams and Dylan Dimitrios would answer with a pair of buckets in the paint.

After the final media timeout with 6:36 to play in the second half, the game would be knotted up seven times from 49-49 to 61-61 at the end of regulation.

With 1:22 to play, a fast break layup by Joshua Miller put the Majors up 61-59. After two consecutive stops by the Majors, Rhodes was able to capitalize off an offense rebound and made a free throw line jumper with 0:05 left to send the game to overtime.

Williams took over at the beginning of the extra frame with a personal 4-0 run topped off with an emphatic dunk.

Rhodes would come back with a 5-0 run of their own to take a 66-65 lead with 1:51 remaining. Miller would answer with five points to put the Majors up by four after he completed a three-point play with only nine seconds on the clock.

After a made three from Rhodes, a thunderous senior-to-senior fast break dunk from Miller to Burnett ended the game and the season with emphatic energy.
