Women’s Tennis Dominates Birmingham-Southern, 8-1

Squad Improves to 3-0 in SAA Play, Men Fall 7-2 on Sunday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Millsaps women's tennis program remained undefeated in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play with an 8-1 victory at Birmingham-Southern over the weekend. The men were downed, 7-2 in their matchup at the Ann Dielen Tennis Complex.

Matches began on Saturday, but had to be completed on Sunday following rain and lightning delays. A second set of non-conference matches between the two schools was cancelled as well.

The Majors will welcome in Berry for a slate of matches next Friday and Saturday, April 2-3, which will double as Senior Day contests.

Records After the Weekend
Millsaps women (4-1, 3-0 SAA)
BSC women (7-6, 2-3 SAA)
Millsaps men (4-1, 2-1 SAA)
BSC men (9-6, 3-2 SAA)

Women's Recap: 8-1

The Majors continued their winning ways in SAA play with an 8-1 triumph. Millsaps swept through doubles to garner a crucial 3-0 cushion in the match. The pairings of Grace Gaskins/Camille Fremaux (8-2), Maggie Dabadie/Morris Kelly Clayton (8-6) and Ella Shields/Marissa Brown (8-7) all improved to 3-0 on the season.

Millsaps then followed with victories on five of the six singles courts. Gaskins, Dabadie, Fremaux and Shields each moved to 3-0 as individuals. Brown also won in an epic battle on Court 5.

Both Gaskins and Fremaux won with relative ease in two sets. Dabadie had her match well in hand when she picked up a victory by walkover in the second set.

Shields and Brown then provided gutsy performances with three-set thrillers. Shields breezed through the first set, 6-0 but then fell in a 7-6 tiebreak to force a third set. She regained her momentum with a 10-3 decision. On Court 5, Brown split the first two sets, 6-4, 5-7 before claiming a classic 16-14 final set.

Men's Recap: 2-7

The men's squad battled across Courts 1 through 6 over the weekend, but dropped its first SAA match of the season, 7-2.

BSC claimed doubles victories on Courts 1 and 2, but Kells Hecht and Jakub Bobinski won their second consecutive match to secure a point for the Majors.

In singles, the Panthers claimed wins on five courts. Junior Benjamin Falk improved his individual record to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep on Court 5. Teammate Trevor Vaccaro won his first set, 6-3, but dropped the next two with identical 6-2 results.
