JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps baseball team (6-18, 4-10 SAA) lost both games to Birmingham-Southern (17-8, 9-5 SAA) in a doubleheader at Twenty Field on Friday.
Game One: 0-8
Starting pitcher
Chambers McGilberry gave up six hits and struck out three batters in 6.0 innings pitched, while allowing five runs.
Chris Hart,
Sam Pitre and
Mark Petkovsek Jr. all recorded a hit for the Majors.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first four innings.
The Panthers got on the board in the top of the fifth off a fielding error. Later in the inning, a two-run home run by Brian Williams pushed their lead to 3-0.
BSC added two more runs in the sixth off RBI singles. The Panthers put on the finishing touches of Game One as they were able to knock in three more insurance runs in the seventh for an 8-0 advantage and eventual final score.
Game Two: 2-16 (7 innings)
Fritz Walker,
Nathan Chilton,
Josh Laurent and Page all had hits for the Majors.
Will Neely and
Bailey Watkins were both walked.
With a first-pitch homerun to start the game, the Panthers set the tone.
Neither team registered a run through the next three innings.
Scoring two more runs in the top of the fifth, BSC found their scoring groove once again.
Punctuated by a grand slam, the game was put out of reach in the top of the sixth inning when the Panthers plated 10 runs for a 13-1 lead.
BSC added three more runs to their lead in the seventh inning.
A
Keaton Page RBI double and an error by the Panthers gave the Majors two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
