MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Survive and advance was on the minds of the Millsaps women's tennis program on Saturday and the Majors executed their plan perfectly. Top-seeded Millsaps (9-3) swept past No. 4-seed Rhodes (6-6) by a count of 5-0 in the SAA Tournament Semifinal inside the Adams Tennis Complex.

The Majors took an early 3-0 lead courtesy of doubles. Grace Gaskins and Camille Fremaux continued their dominant spring with an 8-1 win on Court 1. This was quickly followed on Court 2 as Maggie Dabadie and Morris Kelly Clayton were 8-2 winners.

Court 3 may very well have been the deciding match. Playing serve until 5-5, Marissa Brown and Ella Shields fell behind 7-5 with their backs against the wall. The duo rallied to force a tiebreak at 7-7 and triumphed in the tiebreaker by a score of 7-4.

Needing only two more points in singles to clinch the match, Gaskins and Shields pulled the Majors to the finish. On Court 1, Gaskins survived a gritty opening set with a 6-4 win but commanded the second with a 6-0 winner. Shields secured the win for the Majors with a 7-5, 6-4 decision on Court 4.

Both Fremaux and Dabadie were victorious in their opening sets when the match finished.

Gaskins moved to 7-0 in singles and 7-0 with Fremaux in doubles. Clayton/Dabadie (7-0) and Brown/Shields (6-0) all stayed undefeated as duos, while Shields improved to 6-1 as an individual.

The women will face No. 2-seed Centre at 10 a.m. for the SAA title on Sunday. Live stats and video will be unavailable on the outdoor courts, but live updates will be provided on the @MajorAthletics Twitter page.
