ATLANTA – For the second time this season, a Madison, Miss. native on the Millsaps women's basketball team has been recognized among the Southern Athletic Association's best. Junior guard Briasha King was named the SAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week by the league office on Monday.

King was a dynamo with a game-high 19 points and a career-high tying four steals in a 66-37 win over SAA rival Hendrix on Sunday. She added three rebounds and a season-high three assists.

Hendrix was held to 18.8 percent from the field and only made nine field goals in the game (9-of-48).

The nine field goals were least allowed by the Majors since Jan. 1, 2019 in a 60-22 win over Birmingham-Southern. The 37 points were also a season-low for Hendrix, and it was the lowest points yielded by Millsaps in a conference game since Feb. 9, 2020 (vs. Hendrix, 59-33).

King, a graduate of Germantown High School in Gluckstadt, Miss., joins sophomore forward Helena Roe as Player of the Week honorees this season who both hail from Madison.

Roe was named SAA Player of the Week on Jan. 3 and attended Hartfield Academy in Flowood. Her prep team won the 4A Midsouth Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) State Championship in 2022.

Millsaps is scheduled to remain at home for its next two contests. The Majors host Oglethorpe on Friday, beginning at 6 p.m. and welcome Berry on Sunday for a 1 p.m. tip. Live video and stats links are available on the women's basketball schedule page at gomajors.com.
