MARSHALL, Texas – A full platoon of runners shined for the Millsaps men's and women's cross country programs near the Marshall City Arena at the ETBU Tiger Invitational on Friday. The women finished second, while the men's program completed the meet in fifth.
The regular season concluded with both teams looking in prime form ahead of the SAA Cross Country Championships.
Competing in her second meet of the fall and pacing the Majors was senior
Clare Howard. She covered 3.73 miles (approximately six kilometers) in 26 minutes, 17.2 seconds for seventh place. Classmate
Angelle Martin was next in line, finishing in eight position (26:58.4).
Rounding out the scoring for the Majors were graduate
Rose Ward (27:17.2), sophomore
Sarah Strickland (27:29.1) and sophomore
Tyler Hamby (27:42.3). The trio finished 10th, 11th and 12th, respectively.
Sophomores
Mackenzie Farris (17th, 29:08.2) and
Abby Henry (19th, 29:33.6) also earned spots in the top 20 of 34 competitors.
On the men's side, junior
Patrick Elliott (fifth) paced Millsaps along the 4.97-mile course (approximately eight kilometers). He ran a swift time of 27:38.4. Senior
Landry Lemoine also recorded a top-10 performance (8th, 27:54.5).
The trio of freshman
Chase Spring (27th, 30:34.4), sophomore
Patch Heard (33rd, 31:45.7) and freshman
Kenny-Dean Smith (39th, 33:08.8) completed the Major tally.
Millsaps now sets its sights on strong showings at the SAA Cross Country Championships scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29. The women will race at 10 a.m., while the men are scheduled to start at 11 a.m. along Veterans Park in Hoover, Ala.
