TACOMA, Wash. – The Millsaps men's basketball team traveled nearly 2,000 miles, but fell 81-67 against the University of Puget Sound in the Memorial Fieldhouse on Saturday.
Junior wing
James Little tallied 16 points, three rebounds and two steals in his first game for the Majors to lead offensively. Classmate
Aaron Ursin tallied 11 points, four boards and two blocks, while senior
Doug Watson added eight points and two steals.
Millsaps (1-8) controlled the bench battle, outscoring their opponents 40-11. However, Puget Sound (6-3) dominated from three-point range to control the flow of play. The Loggers made nearly half their total shots from beyond the arc (13-of-35) at 37.1 percent. The Majors struggled connecting on 2-of-26 tries.
Millsaps jumped ahead 4-2 following
Cam Rucker and
Drew Roth jumpers, but Puget Sound rattled off a 25-6 flurry to pull ahead.
The Majors battled back to cut the deficit to 11 points at halftime, trailing 45-34. The Loggers then raced ahead, 66-43 midway through the second half. Millsaps would pull within nine with four minutes remaining before the hosts totaled the final five points of the contest.
The Majors remain out west and will battle with Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash. on Monday. Tip is slated for 6 p.m. CT with live video and stats available at gomajors.com.
