Dallas Outslugs Majors, 15-9 on Saturday

Same Two Teams Return for a Noon Rematch in Jackson on Sunday

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps baseball team continued its offensive hot streak, but couldn't keep up with the University of Dallas, falling 15-9 at Twenty Field on Sunday.

Millsaps (6-3) used seven pitchers to strike out seven Crusaders. Offensively senior third baseman Chris Hart (three RBIs, two hits) and freshman catcher Austin Arceneaux (two RBIs, two hits) both had superb days at the plate. Hart and freshman outfielder Bradley Pelle scored twice on the day.

Dallas (2-3) used three walks in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. Looking to make up some ground, Millsaps showed excellent batter intelligence as five of their first six hitters reached base. The Majors would bat around the order and take a 5-4 advantage entering the second.

The Crusaders would reclaim the lead with four runs to take an 8-5 advantage into the fourth inning. They would then connect on a two-run homer in the top of the fourth for a 10-5 edge. Once again showing resiliency, the Majors made it a 10-8 game when Chris Hart blasted a three-run homer to left field.

After holding the Crusaders to their first scoreless inning in the top of the fifth, a 30-minute delay would extend the game which lasted four hours and 20 minutes.

Primed to score again with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, the Majors were held in check to keep the score 10-8.

Dallas would extend their lead in the top of the seventh with three runs scored for their largest advantage again at 13-8. Down to their final out in the eighth inning, Pelle was able to add another score for the Majors with an infield throwing error by the Crusaders' second baseman.

Later in the inning, the Majors had the bases loaded with the tying run at the plate but Dallas would once again hold steady defensively for a score of 13-9 going into the eighth inning. The Crusaders would go on tally two more runs in the final frame for a 15-9 final.

Millsaps will face the University of Dallas for a rematch on Sunday, beginning at 12:00 p.m. with live stats and video links available on the baseball schedule page at gomajors.com.
