DANVILLE, Ky. – The No. 5 seed Millsaps women's basketball team fell in a season-ending SAA Tournament Quarterfinal loss to host and No. 4 seed Centre Colonels, 56-38 on Sunday. Freshman guard
Emily Adams tallied a career-high seven rebounds inside the Alumni Gymnasium.
Millsaps (9-15) doubled their opponents 14-7 in points off turnovers, and their bench outscored Centre's reserves 16-10.
Centre (11-14) held the Majors to their lowest field goal percentage of the season at 22 percent.
The Colonels tallied the first four points of the game, but
Elicia Lartigue and
Andrea Rayford connected on back-to-back baskets to knot the game up entering the first media timeout.
The Colonels would then score the last nine points of the quarter to take a 13-4 advantage after one.
Centre's run would reach 11 points before
Briasha King ripped the ball away for a fast break layup to make it 15-6 with just over eight minutes left in the first half.
A Lartigue pull-up jumper brought the Majors within four with 1:44 remaining, but the Colonels would notch four more points to take a 22-14 advantage into halftime.
Millsaps did not score for the first 3:44 of the third quarter, and Centre grew their largest lead to 19 as a result.
Whitney Novak knocked down a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to 46-35 with 4:34 left in the game, but this would be the closest the Majors would get as Centre would hold on for a 56-38 victory to advance to the SAA Tournament Semifinals.
