Centenary Gets Past Majors, 17-7 in Midweek Matchup

Millsaps Immediately Returns Home to Face MUW at 5 p.m. on Thursday

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Millsaps baseball team fell in a midweek matchup to Centenary College by a score of 17-7. The Gents used an eight-run eighth inning to pull away inside Shehee Stadium on Wednesday.

Jackson Ware (two RBIs) and Avery Brock had two hits each, while Mark Petkovsek Jr. and Mason Little both scored twice. Left fielder Sam Pitre, who was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, also marked two RBIs on the day.

The Majors (11-6, 2-1 SAA) found themselves in an early hole trailing 3-0 after three innings. They then cut into the deficit with an RBI single from Pitre powered Petkovsek across home plate. The Gents (10-8) would then gain further separation thanks to two RBIs each in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings.

Searching for a comeback, Millsaps cut the lead to 7-3 when Little scored on a sac fly from Ware and Pitre reached home following a wild pitch in the top of the seventh. Centenary answered in the bottom of the frame with two runs of their own.

Finding a groove offensively, McFarland scored on a RBI double from Brock. Later in the inning with the bases loaded and no outs, Pitre once again brought Petkovsek home on a sacrifice infield RBI.

Case Page would then follow suit with a sac fly to right field to score Brock. Capping off a solid inning, Ware would exhibit a solid piece of hitting for an RBI single to score Little and make it a 9-7 game. The Gents would rattle off eight runs in the bottom of the eighth and ultimately surge to the victory.

Millsaps will next return home to Twenty Field for a matchup against MUW. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. with live video and live stats will be available on gomajors.com.
