Women’s Basketball Secures 10th Straight Win by Downing Berry, 71-58

Haley Franklin Tallied a Double-Double (30 Points, 12 Rebounds) as Majors Record Best Winning Streak Since 2011-12

JACKSON, Miss.  Overcoming adversity and a second-half deficit, the Millsaps women's basketball program battled for its 10th straight victory downing Berry, 71-58 inside the Hangar Dome on Friday.

Millsaps (11-2, 2-0 SAA) now has the team's best winning streak since the 2011-12 campaign when the Majors rattled off 15 consecutive triumphs. Berry (8-5, 1-1 SAA) entered the contest on a six-game winning streak.

Sophomore Haley Franklin posted a huge game with 30 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and four assists. She shot 7-of-12 from the floor and 16-of-18 from the free-three line.

Junior and Hartfield Academy product Helena Roe recorded a season-high 13 points to go along with two blocks and five rebounds. Sophomore Whitney Novak and freshman Elyse Warren also grabbed five boards each.

The Majors outshot the Vikings 45.2 percent (19-42) to 32.3 percent (20-62), including a 28-7 free-throw conversion advantage. Millsaps trailed 25-18 at halftime, but used a productive 72.7 percent effort (8-11) in the third quarter to take control.

Millsaps also dominated on the fast break (19-0) and controlled the paint (22-12).

Roe opened the game by knocking down a contested three-pointer off a Franklin assist. The tables would turn as Berry knocked down a three of their own. The Vikings ended the first frame up 11-8.

Going coast to coast offensively, the Majors tallied six fast-break points to regain a narrow 14-13 edge 3:22 into the second quarter. Berry then used its largest run to create its biggest lead of the game to end the half, pushing ahead 25-18.

Coming out of the break the Majors showed great enthusiasm with a tremendous 15-0 run to power out front, 33-25.

Leading 51-50 with six minutes to play, Franklin posted seven of the Majors' next eight points in crunch time, including an and-one opportunity.

Novak (eight points) tallied a dagger three-pointer, giving Millsaps a 62-54 cushion with three minutes on the clock. The Majors would extend their advantage to a game-high 13 points as the final score reached 71-58.

Millsaps will return to action hosting Oglethorpe University inside the Hangar Dome on Sunday, beginning at 1 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at gomajors.com.
