FLOWOOD, Miss. – The Millsaps men's and women's swimming and diving programs swept Centenary inside the GRIT Training Center in a pair of dual meets on Saturday.
The Majors combined for 15 event wins with the men's team downing the Gents, 121-90, while the women's program bested the Ladies, 119-117.
In the men's competition, the Majors opened with a win the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 57.51 seconds. Sophomores
Andrew Meadows,
Ben Anderson,
Brian Ridner and
Jackson Van Meter competed in the event.
Ridner would take over winning a pair of events in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.74) and 200-yard freestyle (2:00.25). The Cincinnati transfer would also place second in the 100-yard butterfly (55.15).
Meadows controlled the 100-yard backstroke with a winning time of 1:05.64. Sophomore
David Kingsbury finished the backstroke in third at 1:37.48. Both Meadows (200-yard breaststroke, 2:40.38) and Kingsbury (200-yard backstroke, 2:35.48) added runner-up placements.
Anderson posted a dominant meet by claiming three event triumphs. He won the 50-yard freestyle (21.89), 500-yard freestyle (5:16.24) and 200-yard IM (2:14.21).
Another event winner was freshman
Payton Jones, triumphing in the 200-yard backstroke (2:27.34). Jones was also runner-up in the 1000-yard free style (11:42.90) and third in the 200-yard IM (2:23.76).
Van Meter added a pair of runner-up showings of own in the 100-yard freestyle (53.92) and 200-yard freestyle (2:05.93), while senior
Casey Miller was third in the 50-yard freestyle (26.23).
The men's team would win the final event of the 400-yard freestyle relay unopposed. Jones, Van Meter, Miller and Kingsbury swam 4:20.44.
On the women's side, senior
Madisyn Latino, junior
Kat Burns, senior
Ginny Ray Clevenger and freshman
Bryn Waller opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay (1:57:51).
Junior
Catherine Passarelli followed with a pair of runner-up showings in the 1000-yard freestyle (12:32.00) and later the 500-yard freestyle (6:01.74) and 100-yard backstroke (1:11.91).
Latino was terrific showcasing two event wins, including the 100-yard freestyle (57.98) and 200-yard freestyle (2:13.00).
Also impressing was Waller, who was first in the 50-yard freestyle (26.32). She was also second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:35.60) and third in the 200-yard IM (2:33.21).
Not to be outdone was Clevenger, who bested the field in the 200-yard butterfly (2:29.28). The Ocean Springs, Miss., product placed second in both the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.83) and 200-yard IM.
Burns was strong with a second-place showing in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.12), second in the 100-yard freestyle (58.34) and third in the 50-yard freestyle (27.33).
Sophomore
Zoe Cowell was second in a pair of races as well, including the 200-yard freestyle (2:15.39) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:39.27). The Memphis native also was third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.47).
Additionally, classmate
Abigail Hoffman was third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:13.53) and 200-yard backstroke (2:38.67).
The women's 400-yard freestyle relay put the Majors in the lead for good in the final event. Cowell, Passarelli, Hoffman and Latino secured first place and the meet win with a time of 4:09.73.
The Majors will next host Rhodes College on Saturday, Nov. 4 inside the GRIT Training Center, beginning at 1 p.m.
