Balanced Effort Powers Women’s Basketball Past Crusaders, 68-41

Elyse Warren Tallies Double-Double with 13 Points, 11 Rebounds on Sunday

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps women's basketball team won their third consecutive game, downing the University of Dallas in convincing fashion, 68-41 inside the Hangar Dome on Sunday.

The Majors used a balanced scoring attack to their advantage and held Dallas (3-2) to 21.5 percent from the field (14-of-65).

Millsaps (3-1) was powered offensively by sophomore Elyse Warren's double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds, three assists).

Junior Haley Franklin netted 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals, while freshman Garin Freeman added 11 points. Junior Whitney Novak tallied seven points and six rebounds as well.

The Majors bested the Crusaders in all categories, including bench points (42-25) in bench and scoring inside the paint (28-18).

Millsaps would start fast, jumping out to an 8-0 lead midway through the first quarter. Dallas made it a four-point deficit, trailing 10-6 by the end of the opening 10 minutes.

Midway through the second quarter Freeman sank a trey to push the Millsaps lead back up to 19-11. The teams would trade baskets the remainder of the half, but Millsaps would methodically create a 16-point cushion and go ahead, 35-19 at intermission.

A Novak three-pointer boosted the Majors up, 38-21 three minutes into the third quarter.

A senior Helena Roe three-pointer, pair of Warren free throws and a sophomore Maddy Maw layup propelled the Majors out front, 51-25.

Millsaps would see their dominance grow to as much as 33 points, following a pair of sophomore Rachel Pflum free throws, which made it 67-34 with 3:22 remaining.

The Crusaders would be closed out, 68-41 for the Sunday triumph.

The Majors will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 25 as they host the Millsaps Thanksgiving Classic. Millsaps will open with Austin College, beginning at 2 p.m. with live video and live stats provided at gomajors.com.
