JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps women's basketball program will be looking to build off recent success as several key veterans and fresh faces navigate high hopes ahead of the 2023-24 season.
The Majors will feature 10 returners and six newcomers. Additionally, the team will play in 25 total regular-season contests, including 13 inside the Hangar Dome.
Head coach
Justin LeBlanc (Millsaps, '06) begins his ninth overall season at the helm and will be assisted by
Shelby Wilbanks (Charleston Southern, '19) in her second season.
Millsaps will look to improve upon a 19-8 record in 2022-23, which featured a 12-1 mark at home. The Majors placed third in the SAA standings with a 9-5 mark and were selected to finish third in the 2023-24 SAA Women's Basketball Preseason Poll.
Junior
Haley Franklin was named to the D3hoops.com All-Region Third Team after recording 514 points, 79 assists and 50 steals. Franklin also tallied 184 rebounds, seven blocks, while averaging 19.0 points per contest.
During 2022-2023, Franklin was a four-time SAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week, named to the All-SAA First Team, the SAA All-Tournament Team and set the school record for points scored and free throws made (156) in a single season.
Sophomore
Elyse Warren is back after being selected to the 2022-23 All-SAA Honorable Mention Team.
She was a huge factor on the defensive side, grabbing 156 rebounds, 14 steals and 11 blocks. After appearing in 26 games, Warren was second on the team in points scored (207), average points (8.0 ppg) and field-goal percentage (.467).
Adding to the quality starters is senior
Helena Roe, hailing from Madison, Miss. She was a force on the glass with 143 rebounds and added a team-high 29 blocks. She was also tops on the team with a .771 free-throw percentage (27-of-35) to go along with 30 steals.
Other key returners include juniors
Emily Adams (team-high 43 steals; 61 assists) and
Whitney Novak (6.2 ppg; 124 rebounds).
Also back is senior
Maddie Howell, junior
Taylor Frank as well as sophomores
Maddy Maw,
Kayla Ngo and
Rachel Pflum.
Newcomers looking to make an impact are rising freshmen
